Testimony:

I grew up in the church and came to know Jesus at a young age. I was baptized when I was about ten years old and knew that I had fallen short of God's glory and needed Jesus as my savior, but it wasn't until junior high that I realized God wanted my whole life and not just a piece of it. I became passionate for the Lord and desired to see my friends and family know Christ. In high school this passion slowly faded and I became distracted from my faith. I had success in various things, especially track and field, and I began placing my identity in my successes and ability to achieve rather than in Christ. My faith was not being lived out and when life became difficult for me my Freshman year of college, I tried to leave my faith behind. My parents divorced, I was broken up with, none of my friends were at the university I decided to go to, and an injury prevented me from running the times I wanted that year in track. I tried to cope with these things in unhealthy ways through drinking and partying, but I found no lasting joy in them. I became anxious and depressed and began to ask if I had anyone there for me. All the things I placed my identity in were taken away one by one. It was when everything was stripped away and I hit my rock bottom that I knew the Lord had been there the entire time. When I tried to run away the Lord pursued me and did not let me go. Though I had been unfaithful, God was faithful. I knew I could not live out my faith half-heartedly, so I committed my life to His purposes and though life remains difficult, I have had unmatched joy. Since Freshman year, I have been astounded by God's mercy. I have seen relationships reconciled, friends changed, and now have a beautiful wife who loves the Lord. My wife and I graduated from Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan in 2018 and 2019. We have loved living in a college town and have planted ourselves in Normal, IL buying a house in March of 2020. We have a desire to use our lives and our home for the advancement of the gospel. We were planning to do full-time vocational ministry a few years down the road, but when Campus Outreach asked me to consider joining their staff it made sense to transition sooner. Maddie and I both grew tremendously in our campus ministries and know how valuable this ministry is. We have had the desire to see the gospel advance and transform lives and that desire has been met with an opportunity and overwhelming encouragement from friends and family. We are excited to see the Lord transforms students' lives like he transformed ours.
